Training center aims to alleviate health care staffing shortages

A new training center in Brandon is set to tackle the shortage of healthcare staffing in the area. Suncoast Community Health Centers has recently opened the Suncoast Career Academy, providing top-notch training for future healthcare workers in Tampa.

As a non-profit organization, Suncoast Career Academy is one of the first community health providers in Florida to have its own training center. The academy offers programs for pharmacy technicians, medical assistants, and dental assistants. By offering well-trained and qualified support staff, the local healthcare community will be strengthened.

Lead Dental Assistant Alondra Gaspar expressed her gratitude for the new equipment available at the facility. She is a graduate aspiring to become a dental hygienist and spoke about how she has benefited from the comprehensive education offered at Suncoast Career Academy. The program includes job search skills like resume writing and interview preparation, ensuring that students are fully prepared to enter the workforce upon graduation.

Research has shown that private dental practices and medical groups are struggling to recruit assistants, highlighting the need for well-trained professionals. Suncoast Career Academy is working to address this issue by offering hands-on training in a supportive environment. Enrollment is currently open for both the summer and fall semesters.

Overall, Suncoast Career Academy aims to provide future healthcare workers with the skills they need to succeed in their careers while also helping to combat the shortage of qualified support staff in the local healthcare community.
