Small business owner Sakari Laukkanen forced to take time off during strikes: “It’s important for everyone to join in”

Sakari Laukkanen, the owner of Teippar, an advertising factory in Kemi, is deeply concerned about the ongoing strikes and their impact on businesses. The prolonged strikes have affected various industries, including Laukkanen’s company, which has experienced canceled orders and delays in material deliveries due to the disruptions.

The initial two-week strike has been extended to at least four weeks, causing significant challenges for entrepreneurs like Laukkanen. Due to the strikes, he had to issue a layoff warning to all eight employees of his company. Although the layoffs are expected to affect only two or three employees next week, Laukkanen fears that this could be just the beginning if the strikes continue.

Laukkanen recalls how similar disruptions occurred during the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic when orders were canceled and supplies were delayed. He hopes for an end to the strikes soon and calls for all stakeholders involved in the talks, including employees, pensioners, unemployed individuals, and employers, to participate actively in finding solutions that benefit everyone.

Laukkanen is particularly concerned about the possibility of a power struggle between workers and employers leading to further economic hardship. He emphasizes that industrial peace is essential for finding long-term solutions that will benefit everyone involved.

As such, Laukkanen is urging all parties involved in the negotiations to come up with concrete suggestions on how to handle this situation effectively. He believes that it is critical for everyone involved to work together towards a common goal and avoid further layoffs or other negative consequences resulting from prolonged strikes.

Overall, Laukkanen’s concerns highlight the importance of finding peaceful resolutions that benefit everyone involved in these talks.
