Folgiero (Fincantieri) aims to develop Italian technology and protect the Mediterranean Sea.

During a recent conference hosted by Fratelli d’Italia in Pescara, Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO of Fincantieri, discussed his vision for creating Italian technology that involves small, medium, and large companies. The focus would be on the Mediterranean, both in terms of geopolitics and energy sectors. Folgiero deemed this project significant with great potential.

According to Folgiero, Italy’s proximity to the Mediterranean makes it a crucial region geopolitically. The sea is home to numerous submarine cables, telecommunication lines, and gas pipelines as well as critical infrastructures that require protection. Additionally, the presence of mining activities presents an opportunity for economic growth and technological advancements in the region. Fincantieri’s expertise in underwater technology allows them to produce smaller submarines and drones ranging from three to nine meters. These will be used by the Italian Navy to safeguard critical infrastructure in the Mediterranean.

Folgiero highlighted that Italy has a unique position in Europe due to its location on the Mediterranean coastline. This location provides opportunities for economic growth through mining activities and defense-related industries. As such, he believes that there is significant potential for innovation and collaboration between small, medium, and large companies in Italy.
