Woman Opens Equine Therapy Business Despite Losing Horse in Tornado in Waterloo

Brandon Johnson, the owner of Jamico Construction, recently relocated to Waterloo with his wife, Victoria Fluhart. They had recently started an equine therapy business on a property owned by him. Fluhart was preparing to host an open house for her business when a tornado struck the area. Despite the danger, she prioritized saving the horses on the property and was injured in the process. Sadly, her beloved mare Onyx did not survive the storm.

Fluhart had owned Onyx for 18 years and considered her not just a horse but a partner, therapist, and friend. Even though devastated by the loss of Onyx, she is determined to continue pursuing her dream of offering equine therapy in the community. With community support, she and her husband are focusing on rebuilding their business by constructing a new building on the property. They hope to host their open house this summer thanks to donations from the community.

During the cleanup process, Fluhart expressed gratitude for the help they have received from their neighbors and friends. She sees this as an opportunity to start anew and fulfill their shared dream of offering equine therapy services to the community in honor of Onyx’s memory. While there may be challenges ahead, Fluhart remains determined to make it happen.
