Paving Stone Attack on Police Officers in Connewitz, Leipzig

In recent days, violent attacks on police in Saxony have been reported after a major raid against nine suspected left-wing extremists. The incidents took place in Leipzig’s Connewitz district, where chaos erupted on Friday night as rioters hurled paving stones at the entrance area of a police station on Biedermannstrasse. A police spokeswoman confirmed that a window was damaged and the facade was tagged with large black graffiti reading “ACAB,” which stands for “All cops are bastards.”

The unrest continued with barricades being erected on several streets in the left-wing district. Items such as waste glass containers and wooden pallets were used to create blockades, and attempts were made to set them on fire. While no fires were successfully started, the incidents escalated tensions between left-wing extremists and law enforcement.

These clashes are not new to the area, as similar incidents have occurred in the past between left-wing extremists and police in Connewitz. This recent wave of attacks was likely in response to a major raid conducted earlier in the week by the LKA and the special commission “Soko LinX.” The raid targeted nine individuals accused of assaulting a neo-Nazi at Leipzig Central Station, leading to hospitalization, as well as other criminal activities including damage, arson, and assault on a police officer.

The ongoing conflict highlights the political tensions and violence present in the area, underscoring the challenges faced by law enforcement in maintaining order and safety in the face of extremist activities. As tensions continue to rise, it remains to be seen what impact these incidents will have on the community and how law enforcement will respond.
