Science teacher from Arlington nominated for prestigious White House honors

The prestigious 2024 Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching has named Laurie Sullivan as one of its finalists. As a science/STEM teacher at Barrett Elementary School in Arlington, Virginia, she is being recognized for her outstanding contributions to K-12 education in the field of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Joining Laurie as finalists from Virginia are educators from Goochland County and the city of Martinsville. These exceptional teachers were selected by review committees organized by the Virginia Department of Education, with Superintendent of Public Instruction Lisa Coons expressing pride in their accomplishments and honoring them as they represent the state in the national competition.

The national selection committee will now review the applications of these state finalists before announcing the winners at a White House ceremony. This esteemed award recognizes educators who excel in teaching mathematics and science while making a significant impact on their students and schools.
