Oracle enhances database technology to improve AI chatbots

Oracle has recently released an update to its database technology, known as Oracle Database 23ai. The aim of this update is to enhance the compatibility of the database with artificial intelligence (AI) technology. The new update introduces a feature called “vector search” technology, which allows chatbots and other AI systems to search for data stored in corporate systems using concepts or ideas expressed in natural human language, rather than just keywords or phrases.

Juan Loaiza, executive vice president of mission-critical database technologies at Oracle, stated that the vector search technology is particularly useful for complex queries with multiple requirements or conditions. For example, if a user is searching for a used SUV with specific mileage and color preferences, along with optional heated seats, the new Oracle database can better understand and process such nuanced requests compared to traditional database technologies.

Loaiza added that Oracle Database 23ai is now available on Oracle’s cloud computing service and through its cloud database partners like Microsoft. However, the company has not disclosed a timeline for when it will be accessible for deployment in private data centers of companies. Existing Oracle Database customers will receive the new technology at no extra cost.
