Nintendo has announced that the successor to its popular Switch console will be unveiled by April 2025. This was revealed alongside the company’s year-end financial results, with Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa confirming that the new console will be announced “within this fiscal year,” with a deadline set for March 31, 2025.
During discussions of the financial results, Furukawa stated that the successor to the Nintendo Switch will be announced within the current fiscal year, nearly a decade after the original console was announced in March 2015. He mentioned that a Nintendo Direct in June 2024 will focus on the Switch software lineup for the second half of the year, with no news about the new model during that presentation.
Despite a forecast of a slowdown in Switch console sales, with estimates of 13.5 million units sold this year compared to 15.7 million in the previous fiscal year, the number of active players on the platform is increasing steadily. Between April 2023 and March 2024, Nintendo recorded 123 million annual players, the highest number since the console’s launch. Nintendo plans to continue supporting the current generation of the Switch console and aims to have multiple consoles in each household.
