REPORT: American quartet smashes world record for distance medley relay in Eugene

On Friday (19), Brannon Kidder, Brandon Miller, Isaiah Harris, and Henry Wynne achieved a world record for the distance medley relay at the Oregon Relays in Eugene, USA. The team completed the race in 9:14.58*, surpassing the previous world record set by USA’s Kyle Merber, Brycen Spratling, Brandon Johnson, and Ben Blankenship at the 2015 World Athletics Relays in The Bahamas.

Kidder began the race with a time of 2:49.60 for his 1200m leg. This was followed by Miller who ran 46.60 for his 400m leg. Harris then took over and ran 1:45.75 for the 800m leg before passing the baton to Wynne, who finished the race by completing the final 1600m leg with a time of 3:52.64.

The next World Athletics Relays will take place in Nassau on May 4-5. The record set by Kidder, Miller, Harris, and Wynne will undergo the standard ratification process before being officially confirmed as a new world record.

The distance medley relay is a challenging event that requires endurance and speed on each leg of the race. Kidder’s strong start allowed him to maintain his lead throughout his leg while Miller used his quickness to catch up to Kidder during his lap.

Harris maintained momentum during his lap while showcasing impressive form and technique on every stride he took.

Finally, Wynne closed out the race with an impressive performance that saw him finish just ahead of Merber’s previous world record time.

Overall this was an incredible team effort that showcased their hard work and dedication towards their craft.
