Julian Nagelsmann signs contract extension until 2026 World Cup as Bayern look for replacement

Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann has been granted a two-year contract extension, keeping him in charge of the national team beyond the upcoming European Championship and through the 2026 World Cup. This news comes after Bayern Munich, who were previously looking to bring him back as their coach for next season, had to look elsewhere after two high-profile rejections.

The German soccer federation announced on Friday that Nagelsmann would remain as head coach of the national team following their successful hosting of Euro 2024. The decision was made unanimously by the federation’s supervisory board and shareholders.

Nagelsmann, who is 36 years old, has brought a fresh perspective to the German team since taking over in March 2023, leading them to victories over France and the Netherlands after a recent squad overhaul. He was previously fired by Bayern in March 2023, but this extension of his contract ensures that he will continue to guide Germany through some major tournaments in the coming years.

Nagelsmann expressed his gratitude for being given this opportunity, stating that it was a decision made from the heart. He feels honored to work with Germany’s top players and lead them through some important events on the world stage.
