Council Aims to Kickstart the Economy with $20 Million Fund

In a recent Montgomery County Council meeting, Vice President Kate Stewart announced that the council had unanimously approved a $20 million allocation to kickstart the local economy. With the county currently facing 25,000 fewer jobs compared to September 2019, the council is actively seeking ways to attract businesses to the area.

The initiative, dubbed JOBS – Jobs, Opportunities, and Business Support – aims to create up to 1,000 new jobs in areas along I270 and Route 29 corridors as well as in the eastern part of the county with an emphasis on equity. To achieve this goal, a $10 million job creation fund has been established. Employers who create at least five new jobs with salaries of at least $100,000 will receive $10,000 per job up to a maximum of $12,
