Microsoft and Google compete for top position in productivity and business app dominance, with Google holding an advantage through platform supremacy, while Microsoft’s LinkedIn stands out as the premier professional social network.

A recent study by SplitMetrics has revealed the growing trend of mobile users relying on their smartphones to manage their professional lives and complete daily tasks. The report found that productivity tools are among the most popular apps downloaded on Google Play, with business and productivity categories leading the way.

In the business category, Microsoft’s LinkedIn is the most downloaded app, followed closely by Zoom and Microsoft Teams. Other notable apps include OfficeSuite and Indeed. Meanwhile, in the productivity category, Google Drive is the most popular app, with Google Calendar and Microsoft OneDrive also being top picks. Google Assistant and Google Keep round out the top five productivity apps.

The study also highlighted several apps that experienced significant growth in downloads year-on-year. In the business category, Lopay: Payments & POS saw a 339% increase in 2023, while Etsy Seller experienced a 329% growth. JobSwipe and Parcel Tracking – pkge Mobile also saw impressive increases of 221% and 144%, respectively. Shopify rounded out the top five business apps with an 83% growth rate.

On the productivity front, PDF Reader – PDF Viewer led the way with a remarkable 701% growth rate, followed closely by Notepad (457%) and All Document Reader (431%). Google Tasks also saw a solid increase of 29%, while Link to Windows experienced a more modest growth rate of 21%.

Thomas Kriebernegg, General Manager of SplitMetrics, noted that this data underscores how popular tools that aid productivity and effective work management are becoming among mobile users. The increasing demand for user-friendly business and productivity apps can be attributed to factors such as remote work, mobile entrepreneurship, and on-demand services.
