Reported Missing: Child of Tech Billionaires in San Francisco

16-year-old Mint Butterfield, the child of tech founders behind popular platforms such as Slack and Flickr, has been reported missing since the weekend. The teen was last seen on Sunday evening in Bolinas, California, which is located north of San Francisco. Authorities from the local sheriff’s office have issued a missing juvenile alert and are seeking information that could help locate Butterfield.

The missing person’s report was filed on Monday by Caterina Fake, Butterfield’s mother and co-founder of Flickr. Butterfield’s father, Stewart Butterfield, who co-founded Flickr with Fake in 2004 and went on to co-found Slack, has not yet made a public statement about the situation. According to DailyMail.com, Butterfield was also sighted in Larkspur Landing, a location north of San Francisco.

Stewart Butterfield and Fake sold Flickr to Yahoo in 2005 for an estimated $30 million. Their divorce was finalized in 2007, the same year Butterfield was born. Stewart Butterfield went on to co-found Slack in 2013 and has an estimated net worth of $1.6 billion according to Forbes as of December 2022 after his departure from the company. Requests for comment from the Marin County Sheriff’s Office, Stewart Butterfield, and Caterina Fake have not been immediately addressed as authorities continue their investigation into the teenager’s disappearance.
