Indonesian Barista Mikael Jasin Crowned 2024 World Champion in Coffee Making – Daily Coffee News from Roast Magazine

In 2024, Mikael Jasin of Indonesia emerged victorious in the World Barista Championship, defeating 53 competitors from around the globe. His winning routine centered on meditation and mindfulness, making him the first Indonesian to earn this title and only the third from a major coffee-producing country in four years, following Boram Um from Brazil. The championship took place at the World of Coffee Asia in Busan, South Korea.

Jasin’s successful routine included an Ethiopian landrace variety called Ají from Colombia and a Gesha-variety coffee from Panama. The rankings for the final day were as follows: Mikael Jasin of Indonesia in first place, Jack Simpson from Australia in second, Takayuki Ishitani from Japan in third, Honoka Kawashima from Aotearoa/New Zealand in fourth, Junghwan Lim from South Korea in fifth, Ian Kissick from Ireland in sixth, and Zjevaun Lemar Janga from The Netherlands in seventh.
