Microsoft halts new Copilot feature releases for further refinement

Microsoft has paused the launch of new features for Copilot in order to improve them based on user feedback. The company will be hosting its annual developer conference, Microsoft Build, from May 21 to May 23, where more details on the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology and its assistant are expected to be announced. In the meantime, Microsoft has released Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22635.3570 (KB5037008) on the Beta channel, which includes bug fixes from the previous version.

During testing with Windows Insider users through test channels, Microsoft has been working on different experiences for Copilot in Windows (Preview). One of these capabilities allows Copilot for Windows to act as a normal application window and make the taskbar icon dynamic to indicate that the ‘chatbot’ can help copy text or images. However, due to user feedback, Microsoft has decided to pause the deployment of these experiences in order to refine them before their global launch.

Although new feature development for Copilot has been paused, it will continue to work as expected on Windows. Microsoft plans to document changes in Windows Beta Channel builds in two groups: one for gradual rollout to Insiders and another for new features and patches available to everyone in the Beta Channel. Some of the corrections that are being gradually implemented include fixes for issues like wide spacing between desktop icons and unexpected display of the address bar menu in File Explorer.

Microsoft’s annual developer conference is also expected to provide more information about its AI technology and how it plans to use it in future updates for Copilot and other products.
