Exploring the Globe: A Night of Math and Science Around the World

Klager Elementary School Hosts Successful Around the World with Math and Science Night

On April 26, Klager Elementary School hosted a highly successful event called Around the World with Math and Science Night. The event was organized by a dedicated team of volunteers from both Klager and high schools who provided families with STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) learning opportunities in the school’s cafeteria.

During the evening, children were able to explore various aspects of STEAM education from different cultures around the world. They learned about the science of growing food in the Arctic, the discovery of popcorn in Peru, and the invention of sorbet in China. Children also had hands-on experiences with robotics demonstrations by Klager K-12 robotics teams and practiced their engineering skills with K’Nex, an invention from the United States. Families were treated to an art show featuring products originally from Australia and had the opportunity to create their own notebooks as a make-and-take activity.

Children also had fun applying their math skills through a game challenge called Mancala, which was created in Africa. Title 1 representatives were on hand to promote reading local Michigan authors and products while MI Future Funds provided information on college planning and savings. At the end of the night, children voted for their favorite station, with the Robotics Teams being named the winner.

Overall, families of all ages had a great time at this interactive and engaging event that was both informative and fun. It was an excellent opportunity for children to explore different cultures and learn about various aspects of STEAM education.
