Canes switch goalies for Game 3, Pyotr Kochetkov to start

In a major shakeup for Game 3 against the New York Rangers, the Carolina Hurricanes have announced that Pyotr Kochetkov will start in goal in place of Frederik Andersen. The Hurricanes are currently trailing the second-round series 2-0, prompting Coach Rod Brind’Amour to make the switch in net.

Brind’Amour made the announcement about Kochetkov starting roughly seven hours before the game, citing Andersen’s workload as a significant factor in his decision. Although Andersen has played well so far, Brind’Amour believes giving him some rest is the best course of action.

Andersen allowed eight goals on 62 shots in the first two games against the Rangers. However, Brind’Amour does not solely attribute their deficits to Andersen’s performance. With Andersen having played 17 games since returning from health issues in March, he could benefit from a break.

Kochetkov, a 24-year-old rookie with NHL experience, has not played since April. Brind’Amour expressed confidence in Kochetkov’s abilities and fresh perspective heading into Game 3. He believes that Kochetkov will bring a new level of energy and enthusiasm to the team.

In addition to the change in goal, Evgeny Kuznetsov will also return to the lineup after being scratched for Game 2. The Hurricanes are hoping that these lineup adjustments will spark a turnaround against the Rangers in Game 3 and help them get back on track in this crucial playoff series.
