Enhancing Worldwide Health – Foreign Policy

In the year following a landmark resolution on strengthening healthcare diagnostics, experts will gather at the 77th World Health Assembly in Geneva to tackle the most pressing health challenges. Despite significant progress in recent years, access to diagnostics remains a major issue, particularly in low- and middle-income countries, due to fragmented supply chains and market barriers.

As threats like HIV, tuberculosis, emerging infectious diseases, and antimicrobial resistance continue to pose challenges for global health systems, accurate and rapid diagnostic tests are essential for effective treatment and care. Diagnostic network optimization (DNO) is a process used by many countries to identify gaps, limitations, and inefficiencies in healthcare networks and delivery. However, much of the information collected during these processes goes unused, hindering progress.

To address these challenges head-on, Foreign Policy and Cepheid are hosting an event on May 30th that aims to leverage DNO insights for better pathogen detection, stronger global health systems, universal health coverage, and the fight against antimicrobial resistance. The event will take place from 7:30 AM to 9:00 AM CET on May 30th, 2024. This unique opportunity presents a chance for experts from all over the world to come together and discuss practical solutions for improving healthcare diagnostics in some of the most underserved areas globally.
