Murphy of the Giants furiously throws gear after being injured in heavy rain

On Saturday night, the San Francisco Giants suffered another blow to their catching depth when veteran backup catcher Tom Murphy sustained an injury during a game against the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park. This came after Patrick Bailey was placed on the 7-day concussion injured list earlier that day.

The game was delayed by rain for 70 minutes before starting amidst a downpour at 7:15 p.m. ET. Blake Sabol, who was recalled earlier to take Bailey’s roster spot, entered the game in place of Murphy. The Giants are currently facing a major challenge with their catching depth due to the back-to-back injuries.

If Murphy is sidelined for an extended period of time, it will put a strain on the team’s resources and test their depth even further. The team is currently without Joey Bart, who was previously in their organization. Jakson Reetz, a minor league player with the Triple-A Sacramento River Cats, could potentially be called up by the Giants to fill in if Murphy’s injury turns out to be serious.

The Giants will need to make adjustments to their lineup in order to navigate these challenges and hope for a swift recovery for both Murphy and Bailey. The team’s depth will be put to the test as they continue through the regular season.
