Georgia women’s tennis team easily advances through first round of NCAA Tournament

In the first round of the NCAA Tournament, Georgia’s No. 7 team swept Alabama State 4-0 on their home courts, marking their seventh sweep in a row. The Bulldogs started off strong by securing the doubles point with wins on all three courts. Anastasiia Lopata and Mell Reasco extended their winning streak as a pair to nine matches with a quick 6-1 victory on court three. Meanwhile, Dasha Vidmanova and Aysegul Mert sealed a 6-0 win on court one, ensuring the doubles point for Georgia.

With momentum on their side, the Bulldogs entered singles play with wins on all six courts in the first set. Guillermina Grant easily defeated Bea Francesca Acena 6-0, 6-0 to give Georgia a 2-0 lead. Reasco and Lopata continued to dominate, securing victories to clinch the win. Reasco defeated Madalena Andrade 6-1, 6-1, while Lopata defeated Carmelle Vial 6-0, 6-1. Georgia advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, where they faced Florida State on their home courts.

Head coach Drake Bernstein expressed confidence in his team’s preparation for the upcoming matchup, expecting a tough battle as usual. The team’s routine of recovery, rest, and readiness remained consistent in preparation for the next challenge.
