Local sports rewind: Remembering moments from back in the day

In the world of sports, two standout performances took place on opposite ends of the country. In the Eastern League’s Northern Division, the Binghamton Mets secured a dramatic win over Norwich, Conn with a six-run eighth inning that included a two-run double by Scott Hunter. Despite slumping earlier in the game, Hunter’s performance helped the team maintain their first-place position with an 18-11 record.

Meanwhile, in high school sports news, Vestal senior D.J. Wiggins delivered a stellar performance in a spot start, pitching a two-hitter with 16 strikeouts in a 1-0 win over Corning East. Wiggins also scored the only run of the game with a second-inning single that brought Chris Brew home. Despite allowing two hits, Wiggins managed to strike out the final batter in a bases-loaded situation.

In other news, Union-Endicott earned a 5-1 victory over Ithaca behind Matt Francavillo’s impressive pitching performance of 6 1/3 innings with three hits and nine strikeouts. Mike Folli’s third-inning triple that brought in Matt Ferraro and Scott Osman helped secure the win for Union-Endicott.
