Diabetic complications cause necrosis in the feet of acclaimed artist Bang Thai

Hanoi Meritorious Artist Bang Thai, 72 years old, recently underwent surgery to amputate half of his right foot due to diabetic necrosis. The former director of Quang Ninh Drama Theater has been battling diabetes for over a decade, which has led to severe complications. For the past two years, he has been bedridden, experiencing numbness, burning sensations, chronic pain, and insomnia in both feet.

Bang Thai’s journey with diabetes began when he was diagnosed with the condition ten years ago. Over time, his condition worsened and led to complications such as necrotic ulcers and atherosclerosis. A necrotic ulcer appeared on his right leg three months ago, which eventually led to the amputation of his toe. However, the wound continued to deteriorate and required immediate treatment at Tam Anh General Hospital in Hanoi.

Dr. Nguyen Duc Hung explained that the patient’s twisted blood vessels and atherosclerosis made the intervention challenging. Without immediate treatment, there was a high risk of infection spreading throughout the body. A team of specialists performed surgery on Mr. Thai to remove the necrotic tissue, revascularize his leg and amputate half of his foot to prevent further complications. Following the surgery, Mr. Thai experienced less pain and better sleep, allowing for improved management of his diabetes.

Despite his health challenges, Meritorious Artist Nguyen Bang Thai has a prolific career in the arts with numerous works to his name.

Doctors advised Mr. Thai to quit smoking avoid sugary drinks and maintain proper foot care to prevent future complications.

Diabetes-related foot issues are common among the elderly and can lead to severe infections necessitating amputation.

Regular screenings for diabetes are recommended for high-risk groups especially the elderly.

Through proper care and treatment Mr., Bang Thai hopes to continue his artistic pursuits while managing his diabetes effectively
