Yankees’ Oswald Peraza set to start rehab assignment on Tuesday

Oswald Peraza, who has been out of game action for the past eight weeks, is set to make his return to the field. The Tampa Tarpons, the Yankees’ Single-A affiliate, announced that Peraza will begin a rehab assignment on Tuesday during a doubleheader against Clearwater. The 23-year-old initially experienced discomfort in his right shoulder during spring training, leading to a subscapular strain and his shutdown.

Despite Peraza’s imminent return, Manager Aaron Boone stated that the infielder still has a significant amount of time before being activated. According to Boone, Peraza will need to go through a full spring training of games to prepare, which means he will likely have a few more weeks of rehab ahead of him. Boone explained that the injury was severe and required time to heal properly.

Peraza began throwing again in early April and has played in 70 games for the Yankees over the past two seasons, posting a batting line of .216/.298/.306 with three home runs, 11 doubles, 16 RBI, and 23 runs scored. His return will be highly anticipated by fans and teammates alike as he was one of the standout players for the Tarpons last season.
