John Taylor, Former 49ers Player, Inducted into Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame

In the prestigious group of 49ers legends, former wide receiver John Taylor has been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. This addition to the Hall strengthens Taylor’s legacy as one of the greatest players in 49ers history. Originally drafted in the third round (76th overall) in the 1986 NFL Draft out of Delaware State, Taylor spent his entire 10-year NFL career with San Francisco.

Throughout his career, Taylor made two Pro Bowl appearances in 1988 and 1989. He was a key contributor to the team’s success, winning three Super Bowl championships (XXIII, XXIV, XXIX). Taylor was also honored on the Pro Football Hall of Fame All-1980s team for his impressive performance on the field. Not only was he a standout wide receiver but also made an impact on special teams. He holds the franchise record for the most punt returns in 49ers history with 149 returns for 1,517 yards and two touchdowns.

Taylor’s 95-yard punt return against Washington in the 1998 season still stands as the longest punt return in 49ers history. His induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame solidifies his place among other great players like Patrick Willis, Keena Turner, Harris Barton, Dwight Clark, Joe Montana, George Seifert, Jerry Rice and many others who are already enshrined in the Hall.
