Tigist Assefa aims to set a new women’s marathon world record at the London Marathon.

Tigist Assefa, a talented Ethiopian marathon runner, has her eyes set on breaking her own world record and achieving sub-two hour and ten minute times. However, she maintains that winning the upcoming London marathon is her main priority. In September, Assefa set a new world record of 2:11:53 in Berlin, surpassing the previous mark set by Brigid Kosgei.

Feeling inspired and confident after her successful performance, Assefa is determined to continue improving and achieving even greater accomplishments in the sport. While she hopes to lower her world record in the future, she is keeping her competitive focus on winning in London. With the Olympic marathon in Paris just around the corner, Assefa understands the importance of conserving energy for upcoming races.

Assefa’s training routine involves running between 110 and 124 miles per week as well as four gym sessions to maintain fitness and endurance. She attributes her success to her disciplined approach to training and unwavering work ethic. For the London marathon, Assefa will be wearing Adidas’s Adizero Adios Pro Evo 1 super shoe – the same shoe she wore when breaking the world record in Berlin. Despite controversies surrounding its technology and high price tag, Assefa appreciates its lightweight design which gives her an added advantage during races.
