Sonny Gray shines in comeback to Oakland with historic 100th win

In Monday’s road game against the Oakland Athletics, Sonny Gray achieved his 100th career win. The Cardinals’ highly-coveted offseason signing pitched six scoreless innings and struck out six, leading the team to a 3-1 victory. This was his last start at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum as the Athletics are set to relocate to Sacramento next season before moving to Las Vegas in 2028.

Gray, who was Oakland’s first-round draft pick in 2011 and made his MLB debut in 2013, reflected on his first career win at the Coliseum nearly a decade ago. He approached his milestone 100th victory with a sense of significance and was proud to have achieved it in a place that held special meaning for him. Key players like Nolan Arenado, Willson Contreras, and Jordan Walker contributed run-scoring hits, helping secure the victory for the team.

Gray has had a strong start with the Cardinals since returning from an injury that placed him on the injured list. In Monday’s game, he showed off his skills and proved why he was highly coveted by St. Louis fans.
