Apple reconnects with OpenAI to integrate generative AI capabilities on iPhone

Apple has resumed talks with OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, to incorporate this technology into its next iPhone model. Previously, the company had paused conversations with OpenAI earlier in the year but has now restarted negotiations. According to sources familiar with the discussions, Apple and OpenAI are exploring a possible agreement and how OpenAI’s features could be integrated into iOS 18.

The upcoming iPhone operating system will feature AI-powered capabilities based on Apple’s large language model (LLM). The company is also seeking partnerships with other AI companies such as Anthropic, the developer of generative AI models Claude 3 Haiku, Claude 3 Sonnet, and Claude 3 Opus. These collaborations suggest that Apple is committed to enhancing its AI capabilities and potentially introducing new features and technologies in its products.

Apple has been working on implementing AI-powered features on its phones for some time now, including Google’s integration through software updates later this year. The company’s efforts demonstrate its commitment to innovation and enhancing user experiences. With OpenAI’s generative AI tool ChatGPT on board, Apple can take a leap forward in providing users with more advanced chatbot functionalities that will improve their overall experience.
