Superheroes Visit Children’s Health on Cape Day

As part of National Superhero Day, Children’s Health in Dallas celebrated its annual “Cape Day”. The event encouraged patients to embrace their own unique powers and wear capes for the day. Miguel Solis’s daughter Olivia, who received a heart transplant at just three months old, used her superpower of courage every day.

“Over the past year, as we’ve learned more about Cape Day and knowing she got to pick her one superpower… courage was something that came up,” Solis said. “Her story is laced with courage.” Olivia spent the day with superheroes like Batman and Ironman, participating in activities such as cookie decorating and painting. She enjoyed spending time with her friend Amelia, who also received treatment at Children’s Health. Olivia exclaimed, “Amelia and I are Superheroes because of our powers!”

The goal of Cape Day is to recognize the strength and bravery of each child and family treated at Children’s Health Hospital. CBS News reporter Nicole Nielsen joined the news team in June 2020 and is a North Texas native who is thrilled to work for the station she grew up watching.
