Georgia is among the top 5 states with the worst mental health care services.

A recent study by Forbes Advisor has ranked Georgia as one of the top 5 worst states for mental health care in 2024. The United States faces a significant challenge in accessing affordable mental health treatment, with over half of adults with a mental illness not receiving any treatment and over one in four not receiving adequate treatment, according to Mental Health America.

Georgia was found to be the second worst state for mental health care, with Texas ranking as the worst. The high costs of mental health care, limited availability of treatment centers, and lack of insurance coverage are some of the challenges that Georgians face in accessing mental health services.

The study compared all 50 states and Washington, D.C., across seven key metrics. Georgia had the highest percentage of adults unable to see a doctor for mental health due to cost and the fourth fewest mental health treatment centers per 10,000 businesses. This highlights the need for improvement in Georgia’s mental health care system.
