Pet cremation company looking to grow

Marjene Schrader, the manager of Oakey’s Pet Funeral Home and Crematory in Roanoke, has expressed the need for expansion. The business has outgrown its current building and is “busting at the seams.” To better serve their clients and meet the growing demand for their services, Oakey’s Pet Funeral Home and Crematory plans to install a third animal cremation unit and more cold storage.

The city planning commission will hold a hearing on May 13 to consider Oakey’s Pet Funeral Home and Crematory’s request for expansion. If authorized, the owners will move forward with constructing a new facility at a cost of $308,000. While the equipment needed for the expansion was not disclosed, Schrader mentioned that cremations are conducted on a one-pet-at-a-time basis, ensuring that each animal receives individualized care and attention.

Oakey’s Pet Funeral Home and Crematory charges for cremations based on the weight of the animal, with prices varying across nine different zones. The charge for cremating an animal weighing between 6 and 20 pounds is currently set at $182. The business has been operating in Roanoke for 14 years and has become a trusted resource for pet owners in their time of need.
