The Under-18 Men’s World Championship: Team USA Wins Silver

In the second period, Hutson scored a goal for the US, taking their lead to 2-0. Assisted by Vansaghi and Skahan, the goal left Canada struggling to keep up. However, before the end of the period, Canada responded with a power play goal by McKenna, bringing the game to a 2-2 tie.

The third period began with Kempf making a crucial save on a back-door attempt by Canada’s captain. This kept the US within one goal of Canada. McKenna then scored again to tie the game at 3-3 with just over nine minutes remaining. But Canada was not done yet and scored two quick goals on a major power play to take a 5-3 lead.

With just over four minutes left in the third, Zeimer scored a goal for the US, pulling them within one goal of Canada once again. However, McKenna sealed the win for Canada with an empty-net goal in the final seconds.

At the end of the game, Hutson was named Team USA’s player of the game while Hagens was named tournament’s Most Valuable Player. Additionally, Hagens received Directorate Award for Best Forward and Hutson received Directorate Award for Best Defender both players were also named to Media All-Star Team. The US outshot Canada 35-25 and scored one goal on four power play opportunities.
