The staff of Camden County Health Department breaking ground on construction of new building

On a sunny afternoon in Kingsland, staff members from the Camden County Health Department gathered for a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the beginning of a new chapter in public health. The event took place on April 15, 2024, on a freshly cleared plot of land that will soon house a brand new health department building.

The facility is expected to improve health department operations and accessibility by offering a more modern structure that can accommodate clinical and environmental health services under one roof. With an anticipated opening date of 2025, the project represents a significant investment in the well-being of the Camden County community.

Key stakeholders were present at the groundbreaking, including representatives from the Coastal Health District, Camden Board of Health, Southeast Georgia Health System, the State, and the cities of Kingsland, St. Marys, and Woodbine. Their collaborative effort will ensure the successful completion of the project.

The cost for the new Camden County Health Department building is over $5.38 million. Funding for this project comes from various sources such as Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) VIII, Community Development Block Grant COVID (CDBG-CV), the Coastal Health District, and WIC program. Additionally, land for the facility was generously donated by Southeast Georgia Health System.

This modern facility will provide better access to essential health services and streamline operations for the health department. It’s an important initiative that demonstrates everyone’s commitment to improving public health in our region.

Overall, this groundbreaking ceremony marks an exciting new chapter in public health for Camden County and its residents.
