Selling with a sample featuring Javier Milei’s record

In 2021, a user uploaded a file for sale containing 5.7 million images of Argentine driver’s licenses. The leaked sample included licenses of famous individuals such as the President of the Nation and other officials. Clarion accessed part of the data and confirmed that the information matches real license data, including personal information and dates. Some photos are outdated, while others are signed and some are not.

The cybercriminal who sold the information confirmed that he had uploaded data from Renaper and the Nosis database. The sale of personal data is concerning as it can lead to various cybercrimes once the information is in circulation. The user who leaked the data explained that he did it to bring attention to cybersecurity issues in Argentina.

This incident adds to a series of data leaks in Argentina, including one involving images of Argentine citizens extracted from Renaper. In response to such leaks, the State should notify the Information Agency and take necessary actions. There have been calls for better coordination between cybersecurity and data protection authorities in handling such incidents. This incident highlights the need for enhanced cybersecurity measures in protecting personal information from unauthorized access and misuse.
