In a stunning performance, Armand “Mondo” Duplantis broke the pole vault world record during the Diamond League event in Xiamen. The 24-year-old reigning world and Olympic champion soared over the bar at 6.24m, setting an eighth new world record.
Duplantis was confident heading into the competition, expressing that “anything is possible” when asked about breaking the record again. His performance on Saturday proved just that as he was the only athlete to clear six meters with flawless execution, clearing all his vaults on his first attempt.
Starting at heights of 5.62m, 5.82m, and 6.00m, Duplantis exhibited his exceptional talent and determination before taking on the world record height. With no misses throughout the competition, he solidified his position as the best pole vaulter in the world.
The process to officially ratify Duplantis’ new world record of 6.24m will now be carried out by organisers and World Athletics. Once confirmed, it will be recognized as an official record, adding another remarkable achievement to Duplantis’ illustrious career.
