Apple should allow parallel downloads and enable deletion of pre-installed apps on iPadOS in the European Union.

iPad users will soon have more control over their devices and the applications they use, thanks to a change in the operating system that allows for downloading apps from sources other than the App Store and uninstalling pre-installed apps. This change comes after the European Commission designated iPadOS as an “access gatekeeper” under the Digital Markets Law, which aims to ensure fair competition in the market.

The European Commission began investigating iPadOS in September and found that it serves as an important gateway for professional users to reach end users. As a result, Apple has been given six months to adapt iPadOS to comply with the strict requirements of the Digital Markets Law. This includes making it easier for users to remove pre-installed apps on iPad devices and adding support for downloading and installing apps from sources outside of the App Store.

These changes are a positive step towards greater openness and competition in the market, benefiting both consumers and professional users alike. It will be interesting to see how these changes impact the Apple ecosystem and the overall user experience on iPad devices.
