Ramin Karimloo and Anoushka Lucas Cast in World Premiere of Elvis Costello Musical “A Face in the Crowd”

A Face in the Crowd, a stage adaptation of the 1957 film, will have its world premiere at London’s Young Vic Theatre. The show will star Ramin Karimloo and Anoushka Lucas in the lead roles. Elvis Costello has composed the score for this production, while Sarah Ruhl wrote the book. Kwame Kwei-Armah, who is stepping down as artistic director of the theater after this production, directed it.

The musical has been in development for several years and features a reading held in New York in 2016. Costello has been performing songs from the score since 2015. The show’s lighting design is by Jackie Shemesh, music supervision is by Phil Bateman, sound design is by Emma Laxton, and choreography is by Lizzi Gee. Casting was done by Heather Basten.

The story follows a radio producer who gives a jailed drifter a chance on the airwaves only to realize that it comes with unexpected consequences.
