On Sunday, April 28, from 1-5 p.m., the Student Recreation Center will host an Expo focused on complementary health services and wellness information. The event is organized by the Health Sciences and Technology Academy, Minorities Association of Pre-Healthcare Students, and the Student National Medical Association.
One of the main attractions of the Expo will be a two-mile Community Health Walk starting at 2:30 p.m., followed by a run starting at 3:30 p.m. Participants will have access to a variety of services and information including oxygen screenings, healthy vs. unhealthy lung displays by the WVU Medicine Children’s Transport Team, blood pressure and nutritional screenings by Project REACH, and diabetes prevention/exercise promotion education by the WVU Student Nurses’ Association.
Gregory Epps, advisor to the sponsoring student organizations, stated that the goal of the Expo is to provide an inclusive environment where attendees can enjoy the festivities while also receiving beneficial services and information for their personal health and wellness. The event is made possible thanks to the support of the WVU Health Sciences Center, WVU Medicine, NASA WV Space Grant Consortium, and other campus and community partners.
