Could Texas Walmart health centers shut down because of increasing costs?

After five years of providing affordable medical care to patients, Walmart has announced the closure of its 51 health centers in five states and its telehealth business. The retailer stated that there is not a sustainable business model for them to continue operating the health centers, which will have a significant impact on patients, associates, providers, and communities.

Walmart’s health centers are located next to Supercenters and offer a variety of services including medical, dental, and behavioral health care. Since their introduction in 2019, the retailer has opened 51 clinics in five states across the U.S. The specific dates of closure for each center have not been decided yet.

In Texas, Walmart has eight health centers located in various cities such as Fort Worth, Garland, Palestine, Pearland, Royse City, Sugar Land, Tomball, and Tyler. Further details about these health centers can be found on Walmart’s website. As decisions about the closure dates are made, the retailer intends to share further details with the public.
