Multiple Mexican eateries in the Phoenix area caught violating health codes

Recently, several Valley restaurants were highlighted for failing to meet health inspection standards. The Arizona’s Family conducts weekly checks on recently inspected restaurants by Maricopa County’s Environmental Services Department. Restaurants with a high number of “risk factors,” which are major health code violations, are featured in the Dirty Dining Report.

On May 9, 2024, several restaurants were given violations for not meeting health inspection standards. Tommy Bahama Restaurant and Bar in Scottsdale had three violations, including employees handling dirty dishes before clean ones, a dishwasher not cleaning properly, and mushroom sauce not being kept at a safe temperature. Someburros in Chandler also had three violations such as employees not washing hands after using the restroom, shredded beef not at the proper temperature, and shredded cheese not kept cold enough. Frys Marketplace in Tempe had four violations including employees touching trash cans then handling food, cooked chicken not kept at a safe temperature, beef ribs out of temperature and deli meats kept past discard dates. Salsitas Mexican Food in Phoenix also had four violations such as cooked birria not cooling properly, salsa at the salsa bar not kept cold enough and masa stored in grocery bags. Pho Mai in Chandler had four violations including an employee drinking on a prep table, not washing hands, chicken out of temperature and dry erase board cleaner stored above a rice cooker.
