Schafer from VCSU emerges victorious at trap shoot state championship

On April 27, the Valley City State University (VCSU) Trap Club participated in the North Dakota State Collegiate Trap Shoot. The club’s top shooters for the day included Kaden Schafer, Logan Heen, Brooke Gaudry, Grant Larson, and Derek Jacobs.

VCSU’s Trap Club has been competing in collegiate trap shooting events for several years now. However, this was the first time they had participated in the North Dakota State Collegiate Trap Shoot. Despite the windy conditions that made it difficult to shoot accurately, Schafer was pleased with his performance and emphasized the mutual respect among competitors, especially during intense shoot-offs.

“It was great to compete against other collegiate teams in the region,” said VCSU club advisor and professor Dr. Nick Galt. “This event is a testament to the competitiveness of our students and their dedication to this sport.”

In addition to participating in this event, VCSU plans to introduce an intercollegiate Shooting Sports team in the upcoming fall season. This will give students who are interested in competitive shooting an opportunity to represent their school on a national level.
