UVA Health to Open Parkinson’s Disease Clinic

UVA Health is dedicated to providing more comprehensive treatment options for Parkinson’s Disease patients. As one of the top providers in the country, with over 2,000 individuals currently receiving treatment at their clinic, UVA Health aims to provide a holistic approach to care by offering access to a range of specialists including physical therapists, nutritionists, neuropsychologists, and nurses.

In an interview with 10 News, Dr. Binit Shah from UVA Health discussed the clinic’s plans for creating a more comprehensive treatment program. The clinic is also exploring new technologies and experimental treatments to better serve their patients. Dr. Shah mentioned that they are investigating treatments aimed at clearing abnormal proteins known as Alpha-synuclein, which are found in the brains of individuals with Parkinson’s Disease.

Currently in its pilot phase, the clinic at UVA Health is looking to expand its program over the summer. Through participation in NIH-sponsored trials and industry-sponsored studies, UVA Health is committed to advancing research and offering innovative treatment options for individuals with Parkinson’s Disease.
