Avoiding Common Mistakes While Traveling to Prevent Digestive Diseases

Traveling is an exciting opportunity to explore new places and take a break, but it can also lead to digestive issues. Eating unhygienic food from restaurants and not drinking enough water are common mistakes made by travelers that can result in bloating, heartburn, diarrhea, food poisoning, constipation, and other digestive problems.

During the holiday period from April 30 to May 1, families and groups of friends often choose to travel and enjoy a five-day break. However, changes in eating habits and mealtimes while traveling can cause digestive issues such as bloating, heartburn, diarrhea, and food poisoning. Dr. Vu Truong Khanh, Head of the Department of Gastroenterology at Tam Anh General Hospital in Hanoi highlights some common mistakes made when traveling. One of the most common issues is eating unhygienic food at restaurants that do not follow food safety standards. This can lead to the spread of bacteria and toxins that can cause digestive problems. Eating new and unfamiliar foods can also result in allergies.

To prevent gastrointestinal issues when traveling, it is important to choose restaurants that prioritize food hygiene and safety, avoid dishes that may cause allergies or bloating before traveling, stick to familiar and safe options such as cooked and boiled foods or those with mild flavors. Drinking plenty of water is also essential for maintaining good health while on the go since not drinking enough water can lead to dehydration. Consuming excessive amounts of meat, sweets or greasy fried foods while away from home can disrupt the nutritional balance of food groups leading to bloating or constipation. It’s recommended to maintain a balanced diet by choosing healthy options such as fruits or vegetables instead of consuming carbonated drinks which increase blood sugar levels causing discomfort or fatigue.

In addition to eating healthy options while traveling it’s crucial to manage stress levels during your trip since stress can trigger digestive issues like bloating or nausea. Taking care of personal health like getting adequate rest is also essential for a healthier travel experience.

Overall by following these tips travelers can maintain good digestive health while enjoying their trips away from home.
