World Video Game Hall of Fame ceremony returns to live event

The World Video Game Hall of Fame induction ceremony is set to return to in-person at the Strong National Museum of Play for the first time since 2019. The event will take place in the new World Video Game Hall of Fame rotunda at 10:30 a.m. on May 9.

This year, the 2024 Hall of Fame class will be announced during a special ceremony at ESL Digital Worlds. The 12 finalists come from four different decades of gaming, showcasing the diversity and impact of video games on popular culture.

Games like Atari Asteroids, which were played on coin-fed consoles in arcades in the 1970s, and Guitar Hero, which gave living-room rockers the chance to compete on a plastic guitar when it was released in 2005, are among the nominees. Other games in the running for induction into the Hall of Fame include Elite, Metroid, SimCity, and Ultima from the 1980s, and titles like Myst, Neopets, Resident Evil, Tokimeki Memorial, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, and You Don’t Know Jack from the 1990s.

The Hall of Fame was established by The Strong in 2015 to honor games that have made a significant impact on the world of gaming. It recognizes not only their technical achievements but also their cultural significance and enduring appeal to players around the world.
