Armand Duplantis shatters pole vault world record for 8th time

In the first Diamond League meeting of the 2024 season, Armand Duplantis broke his own world record in the pole vault event with a jump of 6.24 meters. This marked the eighth time Duplantis has set a new world record, surpassing his previous best of 6.23 meters. The Swedish athlete displayed exceptional form and effortlessly cleared the bar before celebrating his achievement with a leap off the sponge mat.

Duplantis has already won two world outdoor championships and a world indoor title and is now gearing up for the Paris Olympics later this year. The 24-year-old is considered a strong favorite to win gold in the pole vault event, and his recent record-breaking performance only solidified his status as one of the world’s best pole vaulters.

The women’s events at the competition also saw some impressive performances. Australian sprinter Torrie Lewis made a stunning debut in the Diamond League by winning the 200m gold in a time of 22.96 seconds, edging out top American athletes like Sha’Carri Richardson. Richardson, who won bronze in the 200m at the previous world championships, finished second in 22.99 seconds.
