The Sopris Sun 2024 Conference on Sustainability and Ecosystem Science

The annual Sustainability & Ecosystem Science Conference hosted by CMC is set to take place on Friday, April 19, 2024 from 9:00am to 12:00pm. This year’s conference holds a special significance as it marks the graduation of the first cohort of Ecosystem Science & Stewardship students. The theme for this event is “Native Knowledge for the New Earth.”

The conference will feature a keynote address by Ute leader, elder, educator, and author Forrest S. Cuch. He will discuss how ancient Native American wisdom can guide us towards a sustainable future, touching on important topics such as racism, environmental justice, and climate change. In addition to Cuch’s presentation, there will be original research presentations by graduating Sustainability and Ecosystem Science students.

The event will be held online, allowing attendees from all over to come together virtually. Participants can join in seven virtual breakout rooms to watch short presentations by graduating CMC Sustainability Studies and Ecosystem Science students. After the virtual event, there will be in-person gatherings at various CMC campuses (more details available on the Conference landing page).

Those interested in attending can register on Zoom and connect with a diverse group of individuals from CMC’s nine-county district and beyond. The conference promises to inspire and educate attendees, offering valuable insights into sustainability and ecosystem science from a Native perspective.
