Hospital owner Steward Health Care’s Bankruptcy Filing Leave Many Shocked

As a healthcare company struggling to make ends meet, Steward Health Care sought bankruptcy protection. The company’s complex structure is headed by Steward Health Care Holdings LLC, which owns eight hospitals in Massachusetts. Among these hospitals are Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton, Morton in Taunton, and Saint Anne’s in Fall River.

Additionally, the Internal Revenue Service holds a claim of $28 million against Steward, including CARES Act-related debt. Medical device providers like Philips North America are also owed significant amounts by the company.

Local businesses such as Boston Scientific and ProMedical have substantial claims against Steward for repayment.
