Ronnie O’Sullivan proposes modern refresh for Crucible Theatre in World Snooker Championship

In recent years, the Crucible has become synonymous with snooker’s premier event, the World Championship. However, as the contract for this prestigious tournament comes to an end in 2027, there have been rumors of it being moved to a new venue. To ensure that the Crucible remains the home of the World Championship, Matchroom Sport’s president Barry Hearn has made it clear that improvements must be made to the venue.

Hearn revealed that changes were made to the venue for the 2024 tournament, but he believes further upgrades are necessary to enhance the experience for players. Ronnie O’Sullivan, one of snooker’s greatest legends, shared his thoughts on what needs to be done to improve the Crucible and secure its place as the home of the World Championship.

O’Sullivan acknowledged that while some improvements have been made recently, there is still much work to be done. He suggested a complete redesign of the venue with help from an interior designer or architect to make it bigger, better and more up-to-date. O’Sullivan also mentioned that relaxation rooms should be added for players along with more practice tables and showers. He emphasized on creating a player-friendly environment and making sure that all amenities are modern and comfortable for players and spectators alike.

The inclusion of courtesy cars for players has already helped make their experience more comfortable, but O’Sullivan believes that further updates are necessary. With these changes in mind, it looks like Sheffield Council will need to invest heavily in order to keep snooker’s premier event at its current home. If they can manage to make these improvements before 2027, then it is likely that they will keep their position as host of this prestigious tournament for many years to come.
