Strengthening Healthcare through Mobile Units and Nutritional Support at Sage Memorial

Sage Memorial Hospital is expanding its healthcare services to eight locations within the Navajo Nation with the launch of two mobile units. These units will offer outpatient services, including screenings and education for diabetes mellitus, rapid HIV and syphilis tests, treatments for sexually transmitted infections, adult immunizations, harm reduction services, and walk-in services. Kathryn Barron, the nurse practitioner and director of outpatient services and community health at Sage Memorial, stated that the goal is to provide comprehensive care through these mobile units.

In addition to these services, Sage Memorial Hospital is introducing the Produce Prescription Pilot Program, funded by a grant from the Indian Health Service. This program aims to increase access to fruits, vegetables, and traditional Native American foods in order to reduce food insecurity and improve health outcomes among Navajo Nation residents. By incorporating traditional Native American foods into the program’s offerings, it seeks not only to provide nourishment but also improve health outcomes for individuals within the Navajo Nation.

The mobile units will serve eight locations within the Navajo Nation: Ganado, Nazlini, Kinlichee, Klagetoh, Wide Ruin, Steamboat
