36 Athletes from 11 Countries Across 12 Sports to Represent Refugee Team in Paris Olympics

In the upcoming Paris Olympics, there will be a refugee team participating in 12 sports, comprising of 36 athletes from 11 countries. This team was chosen from over 70 scholarships and will compete under their own emblem, featuring a heart at its center surrounded by arrows. The team will be known as EOR, which stands for Équipe Olympique des Réfugiés, the French name for the Refugee Team.

Masomah Ali Zada of Afghanistan, the chef de mission of the team, emphasized the importance of having their own emblem. She stated that it creates a sense of belonging for the athletes and helps them to feel valued and respected on an international stage. The Refugee Team will participate in athletics, badminton, boxing, breaking, canoeing, cycling, judo, shooting, swimming, taekwondo, weightlifting, and wrestling.

The Paris Olympics are set to begin on July 24th and this provides an opportunity for the Refugee Team to showcase their talents on an international stage. This unique event aims to bring attention to the plight of refugees around the world and highlight their resilience in overcoming adversity.
