New Torsional Drilling Technology by TAQA Revolutionizes Oil and Gas Exploration

Threlix, an advanced drilling technology developed by TAQA, has been designed to optimize efficiency and minimize downtime for oil and gas operators. The cutting-edge technology aims to address common issues faced with Rotary Steerable Systems (RSS), such as vibration and torsional oscillations, which can lead to drilling dysfunctions. With its innovative design that includes a proprietary helical spring and fully sealed internal components, Threlix promises to improve drilling reliability and decrease costs for operators.

Cory Blanchette, Global Product Line Manager for Downhole Tools at TAQA, highlights the importance of Threlix in meeting the needs of operators using RSS drilling solutions. With TAQA’s extensive experience in dysfunction mitigation, the goal is to provide a highly effective torsional mitigation tool that delivers superior performance.

Threlix goes beyond simply enhancing drilling efficiency by offering comprehensive engineering support throughout the entire drilling process. This includes pre-analysis and post-run assessments, as well as in-house designed sensors to measure vibrations and torsional oscillations. These features ensure that the technology is tailored to meet the specific requirements of different formations and applications.

In a case study conducted with a major operator in the Montney play, British Columbia, Threlix demonstrated its effectiveness in improving drilling consistency and increasing average penetration rates by 38%. This led to substantial cost savings and operational improvements for the operator. Overall, Threlix represents a significant advancement in drilling technology, providing oil and gas operators with a reliable solution to enhance efficiency and reduce costs in challenging drilling environments.
